FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Newborn

  • Newborn sessions are typically done 5-14 days after birth. Although I recommend reaching out several months in advance, I understand how overwhelming and busy pregnancy is and encourage you to contact me at any time....I don't want you to miss out on timeless, professional photographs. If I can accommodate a late-minute newborn session, I will.

  • I have everything you will need for your session including over 100 colors/shades of wraps and backdrops, headbands, outfits, sleepy hats, bonnets and countless props. If there is something special you would like to include, please let me know in advance and we can absolutely plan the session around it.

  • We will discuss colors and expectations prior to your session so I can have everything ready to go when you show up. I like to show parents the studio during the consultation and you can see everything in person as we start to plan out your session.

  • Safety is my first priority. Your baby's safety is far more important to me than capturing a perfect pose.

All fabrics are washed with detergents that are free of harsh chemicals after each session. And all surfaces are wiped down and disinfected after and prior to each session.

  • I keep the room warm for the comfort of the baby so I recommend wearing summer clothes.

Please plan on keeping the baby awake for the hours prior to the session so they are nice and sleepy once we get started.

Be prepared to feed your baby right before you leave for the session and dress them in a loose sleeper that snaps or zips down the front (nothing that needs to come off over their head). The goal is for baby to fall into a deep sleep on the drive to the studio. Babies with full tummies tend to sleep longer.

Once you arrive and the baby is fed, I take it from there. You are welcome to sit back and relax. Bring your laptop. Listen to a podcast. Catch up on sleep. Whatever you would like to do with your free time.

  • Of course! I love photographing newborns with their family. For many, this will be your first official family portrait.

  • Newborn sessions typically last between 2-4 hours, depending on the baby. Most babies will sleep the entire time and the session will last 3-4 hours. Every baby is different however, and some sessions only last around 2 hours.

  • You will be invited back to the studio for the Reveal and Ordering Appointment within 1-3 weeks of your session.

Frequently Asked Questions about Maternity

  • Maternity sessions are typically done between 28 and 32 weeks. However, every body is different. Some women will not 'pop' until later in their pregnancy. Others may want to wait until they are further along. Although 28-32 weeks is suggested, the best time is honestly whenever you feel ready.

  • Wear something you feel comfortable in. I also recommend light neutrals. Most maternity sessions take place in a studio with white shiplap walls, white bedding, gray brick wall, gray and green couches and old green barn doors.

  • Yes, of course! While the focus will be on the soon-to-be new mom, I love to include the rest of the family as well. While mom is resting, I also like to get photos of any children by themselves so you have plenty of variety.

  • Maternity sessions typically last between 1-2 hours. If it is strictly a maternity sessions we will be finished in about an hour. If others are included in the session it will often last 1.5-2 hours.

  • I always tell clients that I will have their photos ready within 1-2 weeks in order to account for unforeseen circumstances. It rarely takes that long though. I like to get them back to you quickly so you can share with your friends and family.

A variety of images from the session are hand-edited and loaded into an online gallery. You will be able to admire the photos from the comfort of your home and download the images. From there, you can either print the images on your own or can order professional prints through me...taking advantage of the professional photographer discounts I receive.
